Getting started
Batteries Slip a coin into the notch of the cover, on the side of the grip, and open it. Insert two 3 V CR123A or DL123A lithium batteries the way shown, without mixing new and used ones, then close. Turn on: a full battery symbol means they’re good.
Loading Push the back latch up to open it, out of the sun. Insert the cartridge, film lying flat, and line up the leader with the red mark. Close: the film winds on by itself to the first frame.
Sensitivity With DX film, the film speed sets itself, from ISO 50 to 3200. Film without a DX code is set to ISO 100. Turn on: the counter should show 1. If an E blinks, open the back again and reposition the leader.
Your first photo Frame with the T and W buttons, from 38 to 76 mm. Place the subject in the autofocus frame, press halfway until the green AF lamp lights, then press all the way, gently. Stay at least 0.6 m from the subject.
Rewinding At the end of the roll, the camera rewinds by itself and the counter counts down. When E blinks, open the back and take out the cartridge, out of the sun. To rewind before the end, press the rewind button with the tip of a ballpoint pen, never a sharp object.
What it can do
A continuous mode: SUBJECT button until “C”, one frame about every 1.7 s (4 s with flash) as long as you keep pressing.
An auto zoom: SUBJECT button until the portrait icon, and the lens keeps your subject framed from the chest up whatever the distance.
Focus lock: aim at the subject with the autofocus frame and press halfway until the green lamp lights. Focus and exposure are locked, so you can reframe.
A 12 s electronic self-timer.
The flash
Six modes on the FLASH button: AUTO, AUTO-S (red-eye reduction), OFF, FILL-IN (forced), MULTI (4 flashes at 1/6 s) and night scene (exposures up to 2 s, on a tripod).
In AUTO, it fires by itself in low light and with backlit subjects. The orange lamp in the viewfinder lights up when it’s charged, in 0.2 to 3.5 s. While it charges, the shutter button is locked.
Range with ISO 100 colour negative film: 0.6 to 4.1 m at wide angle, 0.6 to 3 m at telephoto. At ISO 400, up to 8.2 m and 6 m.
AUTO-S mode stays active even with the camera off: press FLASH to leave it.
Good to know
The display turns off after 4 to 5 minutes without use and the zoom returns to wide angle. After 4 hours, the camera shuts down: set the switch to OFF, then back to ON.
Two new batteries last more than 30 rolls of 24 exposures with flash every other shot. Take them out if the camera is stored for more than a year.
The shutter button doesn’t respond while zooming, while the flash is charging or closer than 0.6 m.
Avoid temperatures above 40 °C, like a car in summer, and below -10 °C. In the cold, keep the camera warm before using it.
