JVC Everio GZ-MG50E: second-hand, tested and checked
A 2005 JVC Everio camcorder that records to a hard drive: 30 GB, a bright f/1.2 lens and 15x optical zoom.
The Everio replaced the tape with a built-in hard drive: over 7 hours in Ultra Fine quality, 14 hours in Normal. The videos are MPEG-2 files in PAL standard definition, which you copy to a computer over USB. Its lens opens to f/1.2 at wide angle and lets in the light of a room or the end of the day. An LED lamp lights nearby subjects, and a drop sensor protects the drive if the camcorder falls. The SD slot takes the photos.
