Getting started
Batteries Open the battery door. Put in four 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries, or a 6 V lithium pack (Duracell DL223A or National BR-P2N), the way shown, then close it. Don’t mix new and used batteries, or batteries of different types or brands.
Loading In the shade, with the counter on 0, open the back. Put the cartridge in, stretch the film flat between the rails and bring the leader to the take-up spool. If it sticks out too far, push it gently back into the cartridge. Close the back: the film advances by itself to 1 on the counter, otherwise open it again and start over.
Sensitivity Nothing to set: it reads the cartridge’s DX code. A DX film below ISO 400 is exposed at ISO 100, a DX film of ISO 400 or more at ISO 400, a film without a DX code at ISO 100. The manual recommends ISO 100 or 400 DX films.
Your first photo Slide the lens cover down: the camera switches on. Put your subject in the viewfinder’s autofocus mark, at least 0.95 m away, and press all the way. If the red LED lights up, the flash is charging: keep your finger on the shutter button until it goes out, release, then press all the way.
Rewinding After each shot, the film advances by itself. After the last one, it rewinds by itself: wait for the motor to stop and the counter to show S (0 in the Spanish section), then open the back in the shade. If the motor stops before that, change the batteries without opening the back.
What it can do
Automatic infrared focusing, from 0.95 m to infinity.
Off-centre subject: aim at it with the autofocus mark, press halfway, keep your finger there, reframe, then press all the way. Releasing the shutter button cancels the lock.
Automatic programmed exposure, with metering that favours the subject, from EV 9.6 to EV 16.2 at ISO 100.
Close the cover after shooting: the camera switches off, the lens is protected and you won’t fire by mistake.
The flash
It fires by itself when the light drops, indoors or before and after sunset.
Range: 0.95 to 3.3 m at ISO 100, 0.95 to 6.6 m at ISO 400. Keep your subject within this zone.
Recycling: 1.2 s with the DL223A pack, 2.4 s with the BR-P2N, 1.8 s with alkaline batteries. Change the batteries if it takes more than 5 s with the lithium pack or 10 s with the AAA batteries.
To avoid red-eye, turn on as much light as possible in the room and ask the person to look towards a lamp just before the photo.
Good to know
If the film stops before the end or the shutter button stays locked, change the batteries. Don’t open the back.
No 72-exposure cartridges or Polaroid 35 mm instant film.
The autofocus struggles with water, mirrors, flames, fireworks, hair, dark subjects, through glass or with a subject too small for the mark. Focus on another object at the same distance, keep your finger halfway down and reframe.
Hold it without covering the lens, the flash, the autofocus windows or the light sensor. For vertical shots, keep the flash at the top.
Care
Remove dust from the lens with a blower brush. If needed, a drop of cleaning fluid on lens tissue. Don’t touch the glass with your fingers.
Body: a soft, clean, dry cloth, never alcohol or solvent.
No knocks, water, or heat such as a car glovebox. In very cold weather, keep it under your coat with spare batteries, and avoid going suddenly from cold to warm: condensation forms inside.
If it isn’t used for more than two weeks, take the batteries out. Store it somewhere cool and dry, away from dust. For long periods, in an airtight box with silica gel.
