Getting started
Battery Push the switch all the way to OFF to close the lens cover. Open the battery cover with a coin, take out the old battery from the + end, then fit a 3 V CR123A lithium battery following the + and − signs. Close the cover until it clicks.
Sensitivity Nothing to set: it reads the DX code on the cartridge. It’s designed for ISO 100 or 400 DX negative film. Film without a DX code is treated as ISO 100. No Polaroid film.
Loading Load away from bright light. Switch the camera on, check that the counter shows 0, then slide the back latch down to open it. Put in the cartridge, pull the film leader to the mark, nice and flat between the rails, and close: the film advances by itself to frame 1. If 0 appears or the cartridge symbol blinks, open it again and start over.
Your first photo Push the switch all the way to ON: the cover opens. Place the subject in the focus frame of the viewfinder, at least 1.3 m away (1.6 m at the telephoto end), and adjust the framing with the W and T lever. Press the shutter button all the way. If the flash lamp blinks fast, wait until it stays lit: the shutter won’t release while the flash is charging.
Rewinding It rewinds by itself after the last frame, and the counter counts down. Wait until the counter shows 0 and the cartridge symbol blinks before opening the back. For a partly used roll, gently press the manual rewind button with the tip of a pen. Never pull the film out by hand.
What it can do
A 35-70 mm zoom controlled by a lever: W to widen the view, T to get closer.
Focus lock: centre the subject, press halfway, reframe without letting go, then press all the way. Release the shutter button to cancel it.
A self-timer of about 10 s: put the camera on a tripod, press its button, then press the shutter button all the way. The lamp on the front blinks during the countdown. It cancels after the shot, when you press its button again or when you switch to OFF.
The flash
It fires by itself when there isn’t enough light. Range at ISO 100: 1.3 to 3 m at 35 mm, 1.6 to 2 m at 70 mm. At ISO 400: 1.3 to 6 m at 35 mm, 1.6 to 4 m at 70 mm.
To prevent red-eye, the lamp on the front lights up when you press the shutter button halfway.
Fill flash: press the flash button until you see its symbol on the display. It then fires whatever the light, to soften shadows or light a backlit subject.
Flash off: same button, for dusk or a subject out of range. The shutter speed may be slow, so the manual recommends a tripod.
Good to know
The switch has three positions: all the way to ON, the cover opens and the camera switches on. One notch towards OFF, it switches off and retracts the lens. All the way to OFF, the cover closes.
It switches itself off after three minutes of non-use. Push the switch to OFF, then back to ON to turn it on again.
The battery symbol blinking on its own on the display means the battery needs replacing. If it blinks with the other indicators, it will need replacing soon. If everything blinks or nothing works with a new battery, take it out for a few seconds, then put it back in.
With film loaded, close the cover before taking out the battery and put the new one in straight away. Otherwise the film may advance several frames and the counter go back to 1.
If the motor stops without the counter showing 0, don’t open the back: replace the battery, press the manual rewind button and wait for it to finish.
