Getting started
- Battery Open the cover and slide in the NP-BG1 battery while pushing the eject lever in the direction of the arrow, until the lever locks it in place.
- Charging It charges in the BC-CSGD/BC-CSGE charger: about 270 min until the CHARGE lamp goes out, 330 min if you leave it another hour for a full charge.
- Card Insert the card the right way round, bevelled corner first, until it clicks. Memory Stick Duo, SD, SDHC or SDXC. For video, Memory Stick PRO Duo Mark2 or SD Class 4 or higher. Without a card, 45 MB of internal memory.
- Switching on for the first time Press ON/OFF, set the date format, daylight saving time and date, choose your area, then [OK]. To change the language: MENU, Settings, Main Settings, Language Setting.
- Your first photo Set the mode dial to Intelligent Auto Adjustment. The W/T lever zooms. At half-press, a beep confirms focus. Then press fully. To film, press MOVIE.
What it can do
- Intelligent Sweep Panorama: aim at the edge of the subject, press fully, then sweep, following the guide on the screen.
- Hand-held Twilight: it takes a burst (the shutter sounds six times) and combines it to reduce blur and noise at night.
- Manual exposure: shutter speeds from 1/1600 to 30 s, aperture F3.5 or F8 at wide angle.
- Burst shooting up to 10 frames per second, on the High setting.
- AVCHD video up to 1920 × 1080. A continuous take lasts about 29 minutes at most.
The GPS
- By default, it records the location and direction of each shot. To record nothing: MENU, Settings, Main Settings, GPS Setting, Off.
- The first position fix can take several tens of seconds.
- Near a metal object or a magnet, the compass gets it wrong: run the compass calibration.
- Switch it off during take-off and landing on a plane.
