Batteries It runs on two AA batteries: alkaline or SNB-2512 Ni-MH rechargeables. Put them in the right way round (+ and −). Avoid manganese batteries, which are too weak, and take the batteries out if you store it for a long time.
Charging With alkalines, there is nothing to charge. SNB-2512 batteries recharge in the SBC-N2 charger in about 300 minutes. Charge them fully before first use.
Card Switch the camera off and slide in an SD, SDHC or MMC card, front facing the lens side, contacts towards the screen. Format a new card. Without a card, photos go to its 16 MB of internal memory.
Switching on for the first time A menu appears only once: set the date and time, the language (22 to choose from), and the battery type, Alkaline or Ni-MH, so the camera adapts to them.
Your first photo Turn the mode dial to AUTO, frame on the screen and press the shutter button. If the frame turns red at half-press, focusing has failed: reframe.
Good to know
ASR mode limits the effect of camera shake in low light. No digital zoom in this mode, and the photo takes longer to save.
In MOVIE CLIP mode, one press of the shutter button starts recording, a second stops it. Press Up before filming to mute the sound.
MANUAL mode lets you set the aperture (Up and Down) and shutter speed (Left and Right) after pressing the +/− button.
The E button adds colour effects, retouching and frames. On the S630, at 3M or less.
