Battery It runs on the SLB-0937 lithium-ion battery. Insert it the right way round (+ and −): if it won't switch on, check the polarity. Don't force the cover open.
Charging It charges in the camera while switched off, via the SAC-46 adapter and SUC-C2 USB cable: about 180 minutes. Red lamp while charging, green when done. Flat battery: charge for 10 minutes before switching back on.
Card Switch the camera off and slide in an SD, SDHC or MMC card, front facing the lens side, contacts towards the screen. Format a new card in the camera. Without a card, it uses its 10 MB of internal memory.
Switching on for the first time The first time you switch on, a menu asks for the date, time and language (22 to choose from). It doesn't appear again after that.
Your first photo Turn the mode dial to AUTO, frame on the screen and press the shutter button. If the focus frame turns red at half-press, the photo won't be sharp: reframe.
Good to know
ASR mode reduces the effect of camera shake in low light. No digital zoom in this mode, and the photo takes longer to save.
In MOVIE CLIP mode, one press of the shutter button starts recording, a second stops it. The Pause button lets you resume in the same file.
The USB cable alone powers the camera or transfers photos. Plug it straight into the computer, not into a hub.
A card formatted elsewhere (another camera, a card reader, a computer) shows CARD ERROR: format it in the camera.
