Batteries It runs on two AA batteries: alkaline, or SNB-2512 or SBP-2524 Ni-MH rechargeables. Put them in the right way round (+ and −): if it won't switch on, check the polarity.
Charging With alkalines, there is nothing to charge. The optional Ni-MH batteries recharge in about 240 minutes in the SBC-N1 charger, or 210 to 240 minutes on the cradle. Charge them fully the first time.
Card Switch the camera off and slide in an SD or MMC card, front facing the lens side, contacts towards the screen. Without a card, it records to its 20 MB of internal memory.
Switching on for the first time A menu appears only once: date and time, language (22 to choose from), and battery type, Alkaline or Ni-MH. Press MENU twice to exit.
Your first photo Turn the mode dial to AUTO and frame on the screen. Press halfway to focus, then fully. Red frame at half-press: the photo won't be sharp.
Good to know
Samsung lists this model under the code EC-S500: its manual is the one for the Digimax S500 and S600, illustrated with the S600.
The mode dial offers Auto, Program, Manual, Scene, Portrait, Night, Kids and Movie Clip.
In Movie Clip, one press of the shutter button starts recording, a second stops it. The Pause button resumes in the same file.
The Battery Type setting (Alkaline or Ni-MH) adapts the camera to your batteries: change it if you switch battery type.
Take the batteries out if you won't be using it for a long time: they can run down and leak.
