Getting started

  1. Battery It runs on a 3V CR123A lithium battery or equivalent. Open the battery cover using the protruding part of the strap lug, and put the battery in + side up.
  2. Charging The CR123A isn’t rechargeable: the manual says never to recharge it. It lasts about 15 rolls of 24 exposures with flash on every other shot. When the battery symbol blinks, the shutter button locks.
  3. Film Open the back, pull the film leader to the FILM mark, with the film taut and flat, then close: the film winds on to the first frame by itself. If “E” appears, load it again. ISO is set automatically from the DX code.
  4. Switching on for the first time Switch on with the main switch (ON). On the date version, set the date with DATE, SELECT and ADJUST: it goes back to 1 January 1998 as soon as you open the battery cover. It switches itself off after 3 minutes.
  5. Your first photo Frame with the zoom lever, subject inside the autofocus frame. Press fully when the green light comes on (it blinks while the flash is charging). At the end of the roll, it rewinds by itself: wait for the “0”.

Flash and modes

  • In auto mode, the flash fires by itself in low light. You can also choose red-eye reduction, or forced flash in broad daylight.
  • Slow shutter speed, flash off, or with flash to expose both the foreground and the background: the manual recommends a tripod.
  • Self-timer of about 10 seconds, started with the shutter button. Infinity-landscape mode: focus fixed at infinity, for a landscape through a window.

Good to know

  • Focus from 0.8 m to infinity. Between 0.8 and 1 m, frame within the close-up correction marks in the viewfinder.
  • To rewind before the end of the roll, press the rewind button halfway with the protruding part of the strap lug.
  • A film without a DX code is set to ISO 25.
  • It’s neither waterproof nor weather-resistant. It works from −10 to +50°C. If it gets wet, wipe it straight away with a soft, dry cloth.
