Getting started

Battery With the switch on OFF, slide the release button to OPEN, insert the CGA-S007E battery all the way until it clicks softly, close the cover and slide back to LOCK. Use a genuine Panasonic battery.
Charging It charges in the DE-A46A charger, indoors, at 10 to 35°C. The CHARGE light stays on for about 120 minutes and goes off when it’s done. It isn’t charged when it leaves the factory.
Card Same compartment as the battery: SD from 8 MB to 2 GB, 4 GB SDHC, or MultiMediaCard for still photos only. Format any card in the camera. With no card, it uses its 12.7 MB of internal memory.
Switching on for the first time Turn the dial to NORMAL PICTURE before switching on: “PLEASE SET THE CLOCK” appears. Set the year, month, date and time, confirm, then switch back on to check. You change the language in SETUP, LANGUAGE.
Your first photo In NORMAL PICTURE, press halfway: the AF area turns green and it beeps twice. Press all the way down. At wide angle, stay at least 50 cm from the subject. At full zoom, 2 m.

10× optical zoom, up to 15× with no loss using the extra optical zoom (EZ), at a reduced image size.
Optical stabiliser: MODE1 corrects continuously, MODE2 at the moment you press the shutter button, which is more effective.
Video with sound up to 848 × 480 at 30 frames per second, on an SD card. In the internal memory, only 320 × 240.
SIMPLE MODE for beginners: only the main functions and menus are shown.
MACRO mode: focusing from 5 cm at wide angle.

For video, Panasonic recommends a card of at least 10 MB/s.
The zoom doesn’t work while you’re recording a video.
Don’t take out the card or the battery while the camera is on or the status indicator is lit.
If a full battery has been in the camera during the previous 24 hours, the clock keeps time for about 3 months without the battery.
