Battery With the camera off, slide the release lever and open the cover. Insert the CGA-S005E battery all the way, the right way round. To take it out, pull the small lever. Use a Panasonic battery.
Charging Fit the battery onto the DE-A42A charger and plug in the cable: the CHARGE light comes on green and goes off after about 130 minutes. Charge indoors. The battery isn’t charged when you buy it.
Card In the same compartment: SD from 8 MB to 2 GB or 4 GB SDHC, pushed all the way in until it clicks. With no card, photos go to the 27 MB of internal memory.
Switching on for the first time The clock isn’t set: press MENU/SET, set the date and time with the cursor buttons, confirm. Switch off, turn the dial to a recording mode and switch back on to check.
Your first photo Dial on normal picture mode. Press halfway: the focus indicator lights up green and the AF area turns from white to green. Then press all the way down. It focuses from 50 cm.

Good to know
Don’t take the battery out until the screen and the green status indicator are off: the settings might not be saved.
A charged battery left in the camera for more than 24 hours recharges the clock battery: the time then holds for at least 3 months without the main battery.
