Getting started
Battery It needs a Kodak KCR2 3 V lithium battery, or equivalent: it powers the whole camera. Open the battery cover, under the camera, lay the battery on the removal ribbon and insert it as shown in the diagram, then close it firmly. Put the battery in before the film, and close the lens cover before taking it out.
Loading the cassette It takes Kodak Advantix APS film cassettes, or any film marked with the Advanced Photo System logo. Slide the latch to open the film door, under the camera, and slide the cassette all the way in without forcing, with its indicator on the full circle (position 1). Close it: the film advances by itself and the panel shows the exposures remaining.
Choosing the format The format selector chooses, shot by shot, C (classic), H (group/HDTV) or P (panoramic). The viewfinder mask changes to show the selected frame. You can mix all three on the same cassette.
Your first photo Slide the lens cover slider: the lens is uncovered, the flash pops up and the camera switches on. Frame in the viewfinder, at least 1 m from your subject. In low light, wait for the flash lamp to turn green. Press the shutter button.
Rewinding and removal After the last shot, it rewinds by itself. Wait for the motor to stop and the counter to show “0”, then open the film door and take out the cassette: its indicator is on the cross (position 3). To stop before the end of the roll, press the film rewind button.
What it can do
Focus is fixed: everything is sharp from 1 m to infinity in daylight. The aperture is fixed at f/6.4 and the shutter speed sets itself, from 1/60 to 1/250 s.
It reads the cassette indicator and refuses film that has already been exposed: no accidental double exposures.
Usual lab prints: 10.2 × 15.2 cm for C, 10.2 × 17.8 cm for H, 10.2 × 29.3 cm for P. The price of developing may vary depending on the formats chosen.
A self-timer so you can be in the photo: press its button, the indicator appears on the panel, frame, then press the shutter button. The lamp on the front lights up and blinks during the last 2 seconds. Closing the lens cover cancels it.
The flash
It pops up when you open the lens cover and fires by itself when there isn’t enough light: indoors, in the shade or in overcast weather. Wait for its lamp to turn green before pressing the shutter button.
Range: 1 to 3.1 m with ISO 100 film, 1 to 4 m with ISO 200, 1 to 5.5 m with ISO 400. Any further and your photos will be dark.
Raised above the lens, it reduces red-eye and finger shadows. Also turn on the lights in the room and ask your subject to look at them.
It recharges in 7 s with a new battery. If it takes more than 15 s, or if the battery symbol appears on the panel, change the battery.
Good to know
The cassette indicator has four positions: full circle (unexposed), half circle (partially exposed), cross (fully exposed), rectangle (developed negatives).
A cassette rewound before the end can’t be reloaded to finish the roll. An exposed or developed cassette won’t go all the way in and the door won’t close.
The film door stays locked until the film is fully rewound into the cassette.
It goes on standby after more than 4 minutes without use. To wake it, press the shutter button, or close and reopen the lens cover. Blank panel: standby, lens cover closed, or battery low, missing or wrongly inserted.
Care
Protect it from dust, humidity, knocks and heat. No solvents or abrasive products on the body.
Dirty lens: breathe on it to fog it lightly, then wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth or lens tissue. Never dry, and never with a treated glasses wipe.
Remove the battery for long storage. Don’t take the camera or the flash apart: risk of electric shock.
