Questions we get about this kind of gear

How do I load the film?

Open the back, put the cartridge on the left, pull the film leader across to the take-up spool, slip it into a slot, advance one frame to check that the sprocket holes are engaging, then close the back. On motorised models, loading happens by itself as soon as you close the back.

Which film should I start with?

A 400 ISO colour film is the best place to start: it copes with bright sunshine as well as the end of the day. A 100 ISO film gives finer grain but needs plenty of light.

Does it need a battery?

Fully mechanical bodies work without a battery: only the light meter needs one. Automatic models, on the other hand, won’t fire without one. What comes with the item is written on the product page.

Has the camera been tested with a real roll of film?

We check the shutter at every speed, the light meter, the film advance and the light-tightness of the back. What we check is detailed in our testing method.
