Battery With the camera off, open the battery/card cover and slide in the LI-42B lithium-ion battery while pushing the lock knob. It’s the only battery it takes.
Charging The battery charges in the camera, via the USB cable and the F-2AC USB-AC adapter: 3 hours at most, and the light goes off when it’s done. Plugged into a computer, it can take about 10 hours.
Card An SD, SDHC, SDXC or Eye-Fi card, pushed in straight until it gently clicks. With no card, it records to its internal memory: 4 to 9 full-resolution photos.
Switching on for the first time Press the ON/OFF button: it first asks for the menu language, then the year, month, day, time and date order, and finally your time zone.
Your first photo In Program Auto mode, frame and press halfway: the AF mark turns green. Then press all the way down without moving. If it blinks red, focusing has failed: try again.
What it can do
In iAUTO mode, it picks the shooting mode to suit the scene on its own. If it can’t decide, it falls back to Program Auto.
DIS mode reduces camera-shake blur. Beauty mode applies Beauty Fix retouching, which has no effect on some photos.
Nine magic filters: Pop Art, Pin Hole, Fish Eye, Drawing, Soft Focus, Punk, Sparkle, Watercolour and Reflection.
In High-speed 2 burst, about 14 frames per second, at a reduced image size (3M at most) and without flash.
Panorama mode locks focus, exposure, zoom and white balance on the first shot. You then stitch the photos together with the software on the CD.
Good to know
Video up to 1280 × 720 at 30 frames per second. When recording video with sound, only the digital zoom works. To use the optical zoom during a movie, turn off sound recording in the movie menu.
A video file stops at 2 GB, whatever the card.
The USB-AC adapter is for charging and viewing photos: don’t take pictures while it’s plugged in, and unplug it from the socket once charging is done.
