Getting started

  1. Battery With the camera off, open the battery/card cover and slide in the LI-70B lithium-ion battery while pushing the lock knob. It’s the only battery it takes.
  2. Charging The battery charges in the camera, via the USB cable and the F-2AC USB-AC adapter: 3 hours at most, and the light goes off when it’s done. Plugged into a computer, it can take about 10 hours.
  3. Card An SD or SDHC card, pushed in straight until it gently clicks. With no card, it records to its internal memory: enough for 6 to 12 full-resolution photos.
  4. Switching on for the first time Press the ON/OFF button: it asks for the year, month, day, time and date order, then your time zone and the menu language.
  5. Your first photo In Program Auto mode, frame and press halfway: the AF mark turns green. Then press all the way down without moving. If it blinks red, focusing has failed: try again.

What it can do

  • In iAUTO mode, it chooses on its own between portrait, landscape, night + portrait, sport and close-up. If it can’t decide, it falls back to Program Auto.
  • DIS mode reduces blur from camera shake or a moving subject.
  • Seven magic filters: Pop Art, Pin Hole, Fish Eye, Drawing, Soft Focus, Punk and Sparkle. With Drawing, it also keeps the photo without the effect.
  • Panorama mode locks focus, exposure, zoom and white balance on the first shot. You then stitch the photos together with the software on the CD.
  • Video up to 1280 × 720 at 30 frames per second, with sound. When recording video with sound, only the digital zoom works.

Good to know

  • The USB-AC adapter is for charging and viewing photos: don’t take pictures while it’s plugged in. And the camera won’t work without a battery, even on mains power.
  • A video file stops at 2 GB, whatever the card.
  • For long-term storage, take out the battery and card, and keep the camera somewhere cool and dry. For the lens: a blower first, then a lens tissue, never alcohol.
