Getting started
Battery and card Open the cover, slide in the EN-EL19 battery while pushing the orange latch, then an SD card until it clicks. With no card, it records to its 25 MB internal memory.
Charging The battery charges in the camera, through the UC-E21 USB cable and the Nikon EH-71P or EH-73P adapter: allow about 1 h 40 min. The manual advises against phone chargers and generic USB adapters.
Switching on for the first time It asks for the language, the date and time, then shows a series of screens about waterproofing: read them once.
Photo The automatic mode is called “Point and shoot”. Zoom, press halfway to focus (the frame turns green), then all the way.
Video Press the movie button to start recording, press again to stop. Up to 1920 × 1080. A clip stops at 4 GB or 29 minutes.
Before going in the water
Before each swim, look at the cover seal: clean, no cracks, no grains of sand. Nikon warns that it can deteriorate after a year, and that after an impact waterproofing is no longer guaranteed.
Close the cover until it clicks. Never open it in water, in sand or with wet hands.
10 m deep and 60 minutes at most, in fresh water or the sea. No jumping or diving with it: the camera doesn’t float.
After swimming, rinse it in fresh water with the cover closed, then let it dry in the shade, without a hairdryer.
Condensation after going from cold to warm? Turn it off, open the cover somewhere dry and remove the battery and the card.
