Getting started

  1. Battery Open the cover and slide in the NP-80 battery, EXILIM logo facing the lens, pushing the latch until it holds the battery. Casio forbids any other type of battery.
  2. Charging It charges in the camera, switched off, via the USB cable and the AD-C53U adapter: about 120 minutes, 140 from a computer. The rear lamp stays red while charging and goes out when it’s done.
  3. Card With the camera off, slide in an SD, SDHC or SDXC card, front facing the screen, until it clicks. Format it in the camera: MENU, Set Up tab, Format. Without a card, it uses its internal memory.
  4. Switching on for the first time Press ON/OFF: it asks for the language, date style, date and time, then Auto or Premium Auto mode. Then leave the battery in for 24 hours so the clock keeps time.
  5. Your first photo Press halfway: a beep, and the frame turns green. Press all the way for the photo. The [0] (Movie) button starts recording video, a second press stops it.

What it can do

  • Premium Auto recognises the scene (subject, landscape…) and takes more care over the image than plain Auto, at the cost of longer processing and a battery that runs down faster.
  • Make-up smooths skin and softens harsh shadows in portraits.
  • ART SHOT adds effects: toy camera, soft focus, light tone, pop, sepia, monochrome, miniature, fisheye.
  • It takes Eye-Fi and FlashAir cards to send photos without a cable.

Good to know

  • Anti Shake (MENU, REC tab) reduces blur, but only with ISO on Auto, and never with flash or in video.
  • A video stops by itself after 29 minutes.
  • If the battery stays flat for about 30 days, the date and time are erased and it will ask you for them again.
  • Never remove the card while the rear lamp is flashing green.
  • An external charger is available as an option, the BC-80L. Casio rules out any other charger.
