Getting started

  1. Batteries It runs on two AA batteries, alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH. With the camera off, open the cover and match the + and − signs. Never use manganese or Ni-Cd batteries, and never mix new batteries with used ones.
  2. Charging Ni-MH batteries charge in a Fujifilm charger sold separately. When they’re new or have sat in a drawer for a long time, first drain them with the DISCHARGE function in the SET-UP menu, then recharge them.
  3. Card The xD-Picture Card slides into the battery compartment, gold mark facing the gold contacts. With no card, it records to its internal memory of about 12 MB: 4 photos at full size.
  4. Switching on for the first time Press POWER all the way: the lens extends. The message DATE/TIME NOT SET appears. Press MENU/OK and set the date and time. The language is changed in the SET-UP menu.
  5. Your first photo In AUTO mode, frame on the screen and press halfway: two beeps and the viewfinder lamp turns green, focus is set. Then press all the way.

Good to know

  • Expect about 100 shots with alkalines, 400 with 2500 mAh Ni-MH (CIPA measurement). Cold weather lowers these figures.
  • Stored without batteries, it loses the date and time. But don’t leave Ni-MH batteries in it for too long: the camera drains them completely, and they may no longer recharge.
  • In strong sunlight, when the screen is hard to read, use the optical viewfinder.
  • A new card, or one formatted on a computer, should first be formatted in the camera: FORMAT, in the SET-UP menu.
  • Video is recorded without sound, at 320 × 240 and 10 frames per second, 60 seconds at most. Set the zoom beforehand: it can’t move during recording.
