Second-hand cameras, tested and checked one by one
Film cameras, 2000s digital cameras, lenses and camcorders. Every item goes through our hands, then is photographed without retouching: what you see is the exact one you receive.
A fully manual SLR to learn about light, a compact to slip into your pocket for nights out, a rangefinder for the street, a medium format for grain that forgives everything: every second-hand film camera in the shop is tested and checked (shutter, light meter, film advance) before it goes on sale.
And since film isn’t something you choose at random, 35 mm and 120 rolls are right next door.
The look of 2000s digital compacts (direct flash, bold colours, the soft grain of small sensors) is back for good. Pocket compacts, super-zoom bridge cameras, early DSLRs and mirrorless cameras: simple, endearing cameras, tested with card and battery, ready to shoot.
Condition is described plainly, micro-scratches included. What comes with it (charger, cable, case) is listed on each product page.
A tape camcorder doesn’t give the same picture as a phone: the resolution is lower, the colours bleed a little, and the date is stamped at the bottom of the frame. Before it goes on sale, we run a whole tape through it, check the focus and the zoom, then film for a few minutes to listen to the motor.
These lenses were designed before autofocus: everything is set by hand, and most of them fit a modern mirrorless camera with an adapter ring. Every lens is checked under raking light for scratches and fungus, then we work the aperture and the rings. The mount is given on the product page.
Appearance and function are two separate things: each product page gives both.
Like new
No visible signs of use, sometimes still in its box with its original accessories.
Very good condition
A few micro-scratches that only show under raking light. In use, you won’t notice a thing.
Good condition
Normal, honest signs of use: visible micro-scratches, light marks on the corners.
Fair condition
Clear marks: obvious scratches, paint chips, worn covering. Good value for money.
For parts
Not working, or only partly: what doesn’t work is described on the product page.
What “tested and checked” doesn’t mean: it isn’t a full refurbishment. The minor maintenance that affects use is done: worn light seals are replaced before the item goes on sale.
Trade-in & valuation
A camera sleeping in a cupboard?
Body, lenses, camcorder or a whole lot: describe it, attach photos, and get a trade-in offer, or a straight explanation. Free, no obligation.
Yes, every camera is tried out in the workshop before it goes on sale: shutter, light meter and film advance for film. Power-on, screen, zoom, autofocus and flash for digital. What works is stated, and so is anything with a fault.
Do the photos match the camera I receive?
Always. The photos on each product page show the exact item for sale, unretouched, micro-scratches and signs of use included. It’s our rule no. 1: no catalogue photos.
Which film camera should I start with?
A fully manual 35 mm SLR to learn (focusing, shutter speed, aperture), or an automatic compact to shoot without overthinking it. If in doubt, message us from the product page or on Instagram @analog_gwerz. We’re happy to point you in the right direction.
Do you also sell film?
Yes: 35 mm and 120 film, colour and black & white, as well as MiniDV, Hi8 and VHS-C tapes for camcorders, in the consumables.
How does delivery work?
Every order is carefully packed and sent with a tracking number. In mainland France, delivery is free on orders from €150. The amount left to reach it is shown automatically in the basket. For the rest of Europe and the French overseas territories, shipping costs are shown according to the destination.
And if the camera isn’t right for me?
You have the legal 14-day right of withdrawal from receipt, with no need to give a reason. The camera simply has to come back in the condition it left in.
Why a 2000s digital compact?
For the look (direct flash, bold colours, slight grain), which no filter can imitate. And for the simplicity: a real camera made for taking photos, one you can lend out at a party without worrying. The tested digicams come with a checked battery.
Is payment secure?
Yes, payment by bank card through a secure platform (encryption and 3-D Secure). No bank details pass through the shop itself.
From the same house
We know how to capture the moment, too
Analog Gwerz is part of Skeudva, the Breton workshop that also makes KoadBooth: handmade solid wood photobooths for weddings and events.
Every item is unique, tested and checked in the workshop then photographed without retouching. Its condition is described using a precise set of terms, and the most common questions have their answers. Over 1,000 reviews later, the rule hasn’t changed: show rather than promise.
Where to start
Four ways to get started
There’s no such thing as the right first camera in the abstract, only the one that suits what you want to do. The counters below show real stock, updated live.
Every camera that comes in here is taken apart as far as needed, cleaned, tested, then photographed on the same neutral background, the one you’ll find on every product page. Worn light seals are replaced, and lenses are checked under raking light.
There’s no warehouse behind this site, no lots resold as they come: an item online is an item that has been through our hands. It’s slower, and that’s what makes the difference with gear that’s thirty or forty years old.
Pay by card, Klarna or Google Pay. Your bank details never pass through us.
Free delivery in France from €150
In mainland France. Elsewhere, the exact rate is shown before you pay.
Tracked parcels, padded by hand
Tracking number by email, oversized packaging: a camera body doesn’t travel like a book.
Tested second-hand
Mechanics, optics, electronics: every item goes through our testing method before it goes online.
A word about cookies
The ones that make the basket and payment work stay: we can’t do without them. The others wait for your consent: audience measurement (Google Analytics, Jetpack), advertising (Google Ads, Pinterest) and visit tracking for our emails (MailerLite). You can withdraw it whenever you like. Details here.
